4D Glasses (Proof of Concept)
I invented (as far as I’m aware) a way to make glasses that let you see a 4 dimensional object in a 2 dimensional image. This project is about an unsuccessful prototype I made. Anaglyph 3D Bullies were different in the 1950’s The classic red and cyan 3D glasses we’ve been wearing since 1853 (you read that correctly) uses a technology called anaglyphs. Humans use binocular (2 eyes) vision where each eye receives a slightly offset image which is perceived by the brain as a single 3D image with depth. The illusion of depth can be created through stereoscopy; each…

Quest 2 Prescription Lenses
I like to play VR games but as someone who needs glasses to see, I often find myself struggling with trying to fit them comfortably underneath a headset. So I made a pair of snap-on prescription lenses. Wrong Purchase While there are commercially made prescription lenses designed specifically for my Quest 2 but they were a little too pricey for me. I tried to buy cheaper alternatives from Aliexpress but unfortunately they delivered lenses made for a different headset so I returned them. I then remembered I had some prescription lenses I wasn’t using anymore. My Version Combining Martunex’s Quest…

4 DoF Eye Mechanism
When Will Cogley released a no hardware version of his animatronic Eye Mechanism, I tried to printing it to no success. While my printer is not the most accurate machine, I was disappointed to find that not only did the printed components not fit together but the servos wouldn’t fit into the huge base piece. Another pile of parts straight into the recycle bin. If I wanted to make an eye mechanism, I’d had to design one myself and if I were to design it myself, there were a few changes I wanted to make on top of having wider…

Lightning McQueen Car Keys
One day, I noticed that my car key had a crack on the bottom and I got the idea to rehouse the internals in a custom 3D printed enclosure. I thought it’d be funny to have car keys in the shape of a car and when I came across a little Lightning McQueen Hotwheels at the supermarket, and confirmed it was about the right size, I knew what I had to do. KA-CHOW Disassembly of the car key was pretty simple. Most small pieces of electronics these days are housed in snap fit enclosures, and sometimes screws. Mine had no…

Air Raid Siren Alarm Clock
I used to have a problem trying to wake up to my alarms so I tried to think of something that no one could sleep through. How about an air raid siren? The Alarm Clock On Aliexpress, I found a small 12V air raid siren which upon second viewing, is probably intended for cars but for what purpose I don’t know. Regardless, I found that the iconic British WWII Blitz airstrike warning signal uses a 2-tone sound created using sirens in pairs. So I bought 2. I designed very minimal additional 3D printed pieces to house the equally minimal electronics…

3D Printed Glasses
Back in 2022, I went out drinking with my partner at the time, waiting for the New Years fireworks. That day I had worn a brand new pair of glasses I’d gotten a few weeks prior. We had a lot of fun but had a bit too much so we decided to go home early but at some point during the evening I had removed my glasses without noticing. After searching the beach, my partner regretfully handed me a broken pair of glasses. An arm had snapped off behind the hinge but the lenses were completely pristine. Being the engineering…
